HOIMA DISTRICT GIRL GUIDES MAKE HISTORY IN FIRST EVER DISTRICT TUG OF WAR TOURNAMENT.


 
Hoima District Girl Guides Revive Glory with First Camp in Eight Years, Crown Tug of War Champions 
The Hoima District Girl Guides Association, in collaboration with the District School Inspector, successfully hosted its first district camp in eight years at Kigorobya Muslim Primary School from 31st July to 4th August 2025. The event also featured the Hoima District Girl Guides Tug of War Tournament 2025, serving as a qualifier for the National Girl Guides Tug of War Championship, scheduled for 22nd–27th August 2025.

Empowering Girls Through Sports
In a bid to promote girl child empowerment and combat non-communicable diseases caused by physical inactivity, Hoima District School Inspector Miss Harriet Asiimwe partnered with the Federation of Tug of War Associations in Uganda (FUTWA). The federation provided capacity-building training for teachers and officiated the tournament, ensuring fair play and skill development.

RESULTS FROM THE PREMIRARY ROUNDS

The following Junior guides ( primary schools) Qualified for the quarter finals after day one of the Tug of war tournament and semi finals respectively.
Thrilling Tournament Action
The two-day tournament (3rd–4th August) saw fierce competition among schools, with Sir Tito Winyi Secondary School emerging victorious in the Rangers (Secondary) category, defeating Kigorobya Seed Secondary School in a gripping final.

In the Junior Guides (Primary) category, Buhirigi Primary School triumphed over Kyapaloni Primary School in a nail-biting 
2-1 showdown.

Recognition and Praise from Dignitaries  
Guest of Honor Mr. Muhumuza Vincent Savannah (Hoima District NRM Chairman and LC.5 flag bearer) commended FUTWA for introducing Tug of War to Hoima, emphasizing its role in fostering teamwork, resilience, and physical fitness among girls.

Miss Wembabazi Beatrice ("Teacher Mummy"), NRM flag bearer for Hoima District Woman MP, applauded FUTWA for skilling teachers and hailed the Girl Guides Association for reviving scouting and guiding activities in the district.  
 
Overall Camp Champions  
Beyond Tug of War, schools competed in various camp activities. Hillside Secondary School and Kigorobya Muslim Primary School were crowned overall champions in the Rangers and Junior Guides categories, respectively, for accumulating the highest points.

A Resounding Success
The camp attracted 16 schools and over 300 students, marking a significant step in promoting healthy living and girl-child participation in sports. With FUTWA’s support, Tug of War is proving to be a low-cost, high-impact sport that schools can easily adopt.  

Miss Asiimwe Harriet, Hoima District School Inspector, expressed gratitude to FUTWA, stating: "Our girls have greatly benefited from this tournament, gaining the right challenge ahead of the National Championship."

The event’s success sets a strong precedent for future editions, reinforcing the Girl Guides’ commitment to empowering young girls through sports and life skills.
